Tech Session - 2026

04/25/2026

The DVC’s annual Tech Session rolled into the Doerner house on April 25, and even the moody spring skies couldn’t dampen the energy. A steady crowd filtered in, tools in hand and stories ready to share, while the heavier rain politely waited until the day was winding down. Convertibles were understandably scarce—no one enjoys drying out an MG interior—but the spirit of the day was unmistakably upbeat.

A few of our longtime regulars arrived carrying more than just their usual enthusiasm. Tom and Jaimee Rippert, along with Jay and Peggy Kaufman, made it out despite health challenges. The Ripperts weren’t able to stay for the full session, but their presence was felt and appreciated. We’re all wishing them a smooth and speedy recovery.

The driveway and garage filled with familiar faces: Paul and Evonna Phillips, Sandy and Dick Sufferdini with their MGA, Lyn Hughes, Brian Gumpert in his MGB GT, Chuck and Linda Daniels, Susie and Graham Gill, Jeff Rose, Tony Rizzello, Doug and Sharon MacWade with their TR6, Pat and Patty Cawthorne, and Justin, son of Warren and Nancy. A solid turnout by any measure.

Inside the garage, the day unfolded like a greatest-hits reel of classic-car tinkering. Brian wrestled with a stubborn license plate light that seemed determined to test his patience. Graham arrived with his MGA transmission in tow, and a small pit crew formed around him to replace seals and gaskets. Tony set up his wire wheel truing stand—always a crowd-pleaser—and demonstrated the fine art of coaxing wheels back into shape, including one of Brian’s. Doug’s Triumph took a turn on the lift as the group hunted down a mysterious leak and poked around the headlight wiring. And in a moment that will live on in Tech Session lore, Dick proudly showcased his electronic ignition setup… then closed the bonnet without reinstalling the dizzy cap. Let’s just say the car was in no hurry to start after that.

While the garage buzzed with mechanical problem‑solving, the house offered a quieter but equally creative atmosphere. Nancy hosted another delightful crafting session, guiding the ladies through making terrariums filled with tiny succulents and decorating small cutting boards with pressed flowers. The results were as charming as the conversations that accompanied them.

As always, the potluck lunch was a highlight—an impressive spread assembled through the collective magic of the group. After plates were cleared, everyone joined in a hearty rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Paul, adding a celebratory note to an already memorable day.

Another Tech Session in the books, full of camaraderie, shared expertise, and the kind of moments that remind us why this club thrives year after year.
