The morning had all the right ingredients for a perfect Cars and Coffee: a crisp spring day, a lineup of MGs and friends rolling in one by one, and the warm, unmistakable aroma of fresh coffee drifting out of Shy Guys, the little café tucked inside a beautifully restored historic train station. The building itself felt like a bonus attraction — original woodwork, vintage charm everywhere you looked — the kind of place that makes you slow down and take it in.
Once everyone settled in, the conversations took off faster than any of the cars outside. Stories, updates, good‑natured ribbing — it all flowed so easily that not a single person wandered over to the impressive collection of vintage video games. They sat untouched, glowing quietly in the corner like wallflowers at a dance.
The turnout was strong, and the cars drew plenty of attention. A few curious visitors stopped by to admire the MGs and ask what this gathering was all about. The group was more than happy to share.
A couple of lighthearted “awards” added to the fun. Paul Phillips earned bragging rights for correctly identifying who Shy Guy actually is, and Evonna took home the prize for best hat. The prize? A hearty cheer from the crowd — simple, spirited, and perfectly fitting. Jeff Rose brought a hat too, but true to the theme, he was a little too shy to wear it.
In attendance were:
• Sandy and Dick Suffridini in their ’62 MGA
• Evonna and Paul Phillips in their ’67 MGBGT
• Brian Gumpert in his ’67 MGBGT
• Chris Huber in his 1949 MG TC
• Chris O’Brien in his 1960 MGA
• Hosts Jeff and Robin Rose in a Mini Cooper Countryman and a 1968 Triumph TR250
• Diane and Jim Sanders in their big car
• Lew Phillips, big car
• Chuck Daniels, big car
It was the kind of gathering that reminds you why these events matter — not just the cars, but the people who love them, the stories they bring, and the easy camaraderie that fills a morning with something a little better than ordinary.
