Chili Cook-off Plus! - 2026

05/30/2026

What a great day for a cook-off. Twenty-three members gathered to show off their cooking skills. Although a backyard cook-off, much of the food was prepared at home; no worries. Not sure where I could have placed an oven. There was some cooking at the event. Lyn prepared some great grilled chicken, and we had the famous Dick’s Dog.

There was a great variety of very delicious entrees and desserts in the two categories. Chili, sauerkraut and kielbasa, ribs, party lunch sandwich, and loaded salads were among the entrees. And a wide array of desserts: cookies, cakes, pie, brownies. Competition was intense. The winners were Jay’s ribs, first place in the entrée category, and Chuck Andee’s mint cake, first in desserts. Everyone left very satisfied, especially since you had sampled all the entries to vote for your favorite!

After lunch, it was time for trebuchet practice. What gathering would be complete without practice for a siege? Members took turns launching bean bags over Lyn’s property. And I am pleased to report no injuries or cars were hurt. Warming it up for some pumpkin chucking in the fall?

The party was wrapped up with breaking down the canopy. Always a battle to get it back in the bag. But teamwork achieved success.

Thank you, Lyn, for your hospitality.
